Please find below a list of the most common reasons why applications to the Bromley Trust were not successful:
Outside of Criteria:
- Broad organisational mission that does not align with our priorities.
- Income is outside of our criteria (£100k-£1.2m)
- Other eligibility restrictions
Lack of focus on people seeking sanctuary or people in prison:
- Organisations primarily focused on broader issues (e.g. racial equality, general immigration advice, crime prevention, or domestic abuse).
- Organisations primarily serving other vulnerable groups (e.g. victims of childhood exploitation, young people at risk of offending).
Insufficient wider change work:
- Primary focus on front-line activities (e.g. housing, counselling) with very little emphasis on systemic change
- Limited or no concrete plans for advocacy, policy or practice influencing, or systemic change beyond direct service provision.
- Plans for wider change work presented as future aspirations and not currently undertaking any relevant activities.
No direct service provision:
- Primarily focused on supporting infrastructure, research or policy, and not undertaking much direct front-line work.
Inadequate detail on key aspects:
- Lack of clarity on the number of people worked with, specific services provided, and / or measurable outcomes.
- Insufficient information on financial position.
Weaker application when compared to others:
- Weaknesses in one or more of our main short-listing priorities (e.g. involvement of beneficiaries in decision-making)
- Applications that were not as strong as others considered and could not be taken forward due to budgetary constraints
