The Bromley Trust is an endowed charity. We finance our activities from our investment portfolio, which is managed by Cazenove Capital on our behalf. Further information can be found in our Annual Report and Audited Accounts, which you can download as a PDF file.
Responsible Investment
The profitability of the Trust’s investment portfolio is vital for the continuation of its long-term grant-making. Whilst we seek to maximise our returns, there are some corporations and industries which appear to be in direct conflict with our own charitable aims and objectives, in which we would not wish to invest. The Trustees currently impose the following ethical screens on the investment portfolio:
- Human Rights (This includes companies which are associated with human rights violations and are not actively addressing those concerns)
- Armaments
- Pornography
- Tobacco
- Private Prisons
- Coal, Tar Sands, and companies focused solely on the exploration and production of oil and gas
- Chinese Government Bonds
- Russian Government Bonds and Equities
We also encourage our investment managers to engage in positive screening, to proactively invest in companies with a good ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) record and to use their voting power to encourage change where it is needed. This strategy is regularly reviewed by the trustees.
