Programme

Aims to reduce the long term pressure on unsustainable
international forestry. Work includes the production
of domestic regional and local alternatives to imported
wood products. For example Charcoal and Woodchip. BioRegional
also provides incentives for sustainable woodland management
in UK and works with Butterfly Conservation to establish
long term biodiversity monitoring to support the importance
of coppice restoration.

a combination of sustainable usage and making sure
the park itself is under effective management.

Natural History Museum- David
Attenborough Studio Capital Appeal.

The David Attenborough Studio will be a modern, technologically
advanced debating chamber that will link the museum to the outside world. Facilitated by
scientific experts and learning professionals the Studio will create dialogue
and discussion with audiences outside the museum, for example by linking schools
and research stations, enabling the transfer of knowledge and practical support.

Owns, in order to preserve, two areas of the Serra
do Mar in Nova Friburgo municipality of Mata Atlantica
(The Atlantic Coastal Rain Forest) Brazil.

Restricted to the International Conifer Conservation
Programme for the development of a Conservation Monitoring
Centre in Chile. The centre will monitor threatened
plants of the endangered temperate conifer forests
and act as an early warning centre for species at risk.
The centre will work closely with the indigenous population
to find sustainable and financially beneficial strategies
for managing the forests. For example developing methods
of firewood production, selective felling and the production
of non-timber forest products as well as providing
skill training in plant identification and forest management.

Tree Aid

Supports partner agencies in the Sahel region of Africa
where 90% of people depend on trees, and where trees
and consequently the survival of the community is under
threat from environmental degradation. Tree Aid supports
60 partner agencies to plant trees in shelterbelts,
orchards, woodlots, and around fields and homes and
provides grants to educate and train the local communities
in forest management and related skills.
